What Is PALS Certification and When Is It Required?
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an AHA certification for healthcare providers who manage respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies in pediatric patients. It is required for PICU nurses, pediatric emergency physicians, and others treating critically ill children, following 2020 AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support Guidelines.
- Prerequisite: current AHA BLS Provider certification is mandatory
- Covers pediatric cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, and shock recognition
- Available as Initial or Renewal + BLS combo course
- Certification valid for 2 years — based on 2020 AHA Guidelines

Designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirement.
In order to register for your PALS renewal course, your AHA PALS Provider certification must be current. You must already hold a current and non expired AHA BLS provider certification in order to register for any BLS combo course.
