Prerequisites:

Have current provider status in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. 

The BLS Instructor Essentials Online course: The BLS Instructor Essentials Course teaches information needed to instruct AHA’s BLS for Healthcare Providers and Heartsaver^® classroom courses and to conduct skills practice and skills testing sessions for BLS for Healthcare Providers and Heartsaver eLearning courses. BLS Instructor Essentials covers planning and preparation for courses, instructing courses, conducting written exams and skills testing and keeping your BLS Instructor status current. It includes approximately 30 minutes of general information about instructing AHA courses, followed by course-specific information. The BLS essentials online course must be complete before comming into the instructor course. Instructions on how to access the online course will be emailed to you upon registration.

It is required that you have the instructor manual with you during the isntructor course. If you purchase the book package during registration, you may opt to have the instructor manual shipped, or you can pick it up during check-in.

You are also required to have a current BLS provider manual. 

Candidates who do not purchase the instructor manual and do not bring it with them to class with be asked to purchase the manual during check in. 

After Instructor Course:

Instructor candidate to be monitored by an AHA Instructor while teaching an AHA CPR course. If candidate monitoring is successful, Instructor card will be provided on that day.
